Dear IndustriALL affiliate,
Congratulations on being elected the General Secretary.
I would like to bring to your attention that Steeve Latte from IndustriALL is intentionally not correctly applying the following CBA rule concerning Health Insurance. Steeve Latte believes that a spouse not living in the same household as the staff member is not allowed to receive Health Insurance. Instead of fighting for his co-workers’ rights he is fighting to take away their rights.
“Each staff member, their spouse or partner living in the same household (meaning financially dependent), who is not working, and their child up to 18 years old or up to 25 years old in case of studies, shall be insured under the collective semi private health and dental insurance of IndustriALL entirely paid by IndustriALL.”. The condition about living in the same household' applies only to a partner and not to a spouse. The status of 'spouse' is defined by having a legally valid marriage certificate, so there would be no need to impose any additional conditions. It is much more difficult to prove whether a 'partner' relationship exists or not, so to prevent people abusing the system, IA has included the condition that a partner is recognised as such only if they are living in the same household as the staff member. UNIA, who helped put together the CBA concurs with the above explanation.
I created IndustriALL’s database in 1996 and I have maintained it ever since. Over the last 9 years IndustriALL has tried unsuccessfully with 2 different companies to redo my database program and has lost over CHF 350’000. Today, Steeve Latte is trying to cheat fellow colleagues of benefits in order to make savings to compensate for previous bad financial decisions. The employee is pushed into accepting a loss of a benefit and in exchange receives an unspoken guarantee not to be fired since they will cost less in social expenses. This is a form of mobbing which is certainly against the principles that IndustriALL fight for.
I hope that you will take some time during the Congress to explain to Valter Sanches that Steeve Latte cannot interpret the CBA rules as he pleases.
Yours faithfully,
Alan Davidson
